Avon Lake Police warn residents to lock cars after 4 were stolen from driveways overnight

AVON LAKE, Ohio (WOIO) – Avon Lake Police are warning residents to lock their cars before turning in for the night after four cars were stolen out of driveways in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

Police said the cars were stolen between 3-4 a.m. from Belmont Drive and Rebecca Lane.

Two out of the four cars have been recovered, processed, and returned to the owner, according to police.

One of those two was found on East 233rd Street in Euclid while the other was on Nottingham Road in Cleveland, police said.

The other two that are still missing are a red 2018 Mazda CX5 with Ohio license JGZ 7750 and a silver 2014 Nissan Maxima with Ohio license HVU 3697.

Police said several suburbs on Cleveland’s West Side have had similar strings of car thefts with suspects traveling into suburban neighborhoods during the early morning hours in search of unlocked cars.

According to police, suspects have also used garage door remotes from unlocked cars to get into the home to search for keys.

Home security videos showed these suspects traveling in groups of at least three to four, police said.

Call police at 440-933-4567 if you see these cars or know where they may be.

“Always contact us to report suspicious activity, we would rather be called and not needed than needed and not called,” Avon Lake Police said.
